This makes no sense. Surely Francis was the first American Pope and the first South American Pope, and Leo is the second American Pope and first North American Pope?
I meant “American” of Leo XIV in the sense of “US” rather than “from the Americas”. In that latter sense, yes, Leo XIV is the second American but first North American and United States Pope, Francis having been the first (and remaining the only one to come from South America).
