Our submarines were something to be proud of when I was in and proud we were. I think we’d be so much better off with more Astutes than enormous aircraft carriers that don't seem to go anywhere. And if my vote had counted, we’d have ditched the bombers after Trident.
Bombers and and carriers seem more about international status than international wars.
I have to say that the level of rhetoric dribbling out of the mouths of the MOD and others justifying their position that you report reminds me of a lot of what I've heard during the ongoing Post Office Horizon enquiry… obfuscation designed to shift attention away and avoid retribution. Is it a skill that is taught and refined at places like Sandhurst and Business Schools?
